Hegen Bottle Review: Why We Stopped Buying Anything Else
We tried six bottle brands with our own baby. Hegen is the one we kept buying. What it does well, and who should skip it.
Short answer
- Want a bottle that’s simple to clean and doubles as milk storage → Hegen. After trying five well-known brands, plus a few Japanese and European ones, it’s the only one we kept buying.
- Want glass → Philips Avent Natural Response, Pigeon or Lansinoh glass. Hegen is PPSU, a hard plastic.
- On a tight budget, or your baby is picky about teats → buy one Hegen first, or skip it.
The nipple is the real reason
- Breast-like and off-center. Hegen describes the teat as soft, elliptical and shaped to mimic the breast. It’s set off-center so the bottle can stay closer to upright: Hegen says about a 20-degree tilt, versus the steeper tilt conventional bottles need.
- Built-in vent. The anti-colic air vents are in the teat itself, with no extra vent parts. Hegen says the venting lets air bypass the milk to reduce how much air the baby takes in. Per Hegen’s FAQ, line the vent up with the logo on the collar. A collapsed teat usually means the vent lips are stuck together after washing.
After the round-teat bottles below, our family preferred Hegen’s breast-shaped teat, and our baby seemed to feed with less effort on it. That’s one family and one baby. Hegen makes further health claims we can’t verify, so we’ve left them out.
What we actually used
With our own baby we used Philips Avent Natural Response Glass, Pigeon SofTouch Glass, Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow Anti-Colic Glass, Lansinoh NaturalWave and Evenflo Balance+ Wide Neck Glass, plus a few Japanese and European bottles we no longer remember. Then we bought three Hegen bottles, and after that bought only Hegen. We used them for about two months. That buying history is the first-hand part of this review; the specs come from Hegen and public sources.
What makes it different
There’s no screw thread. Hegen’s patented Press-to-Close, Twist-to-Open lid presses on and twists off, and swapping in a storage lid turns the bottle into an airtight milk container. The body is PPSU, which Hegen says is FDA-compliant, free of BPA and BPS, and rated from −20°C to 180°C. It’s lighter than glass and won’t shatter, but it’s still a plastic.
What other parents say
- Praised: easy cleaning thanks to the wide opening and few parts, the quick lid once you’re used to it, and reuse as storage or snack containers. Mommyhood101, testing samples Hegen provided, found older babies gripped the square bottle easily.
- Complaints: the price, a learning curve (parts must be aligned and pressed fully home or it can leak), spills after drops, and a teat that doesn’t suit every baby. Some adults find the square shape awkward to hold.

Where it’s from
Hegen is a Singapore brand launched in 2015 by Fitson, which spent decades making baby products for other brands. Hegen says its bottles are manufactured in Malaysia, in Fitson’s own plants.

Skip Hegen if…
- Price matters most. It costs noticeably more per bottle than the others here.
- You want glass. PPSU is light and tough, but it’s plastic.
- Your warmer or sterilizer is snug. Hegen bottles are 7 cm across (Hegen). Measure first.
- You’re committed to another pump system. Adapters exist; check the fit.
Safety and how we checked
Hands-on, we only report what we used and kept buying. Everything else is from the sources linked. On October 29, 2026 we searched CPSC’s recall database and FDA’s recall data for “Hegen” and found no recalls. Follow Hegen’s cleaning and teat-replacement instructions, and ask your pediatrician about feeding concerns. This isn’t medical advice.
