Best Carbon Steel Wok for a Home Stove

Flat bottom, 13–14 inches, carbon steel. Which one depends on your stove and how much seasoning you want to do.

Short answer

  • Electric, induction or a weak gas burner → flat-bottom carbon steel, 13–14 in. Round bottoms need a wok ring and a strong flame.
  • Easiest start → Yosukata 13.5″ flat, pre-seasoned. 1.5 mm steel, about 3.6 lb.
  • Strong gas and you like the classic feel → Craft Wok 14″ hand-hammered. Heavier, needs a full seasoning.

Where woks are made

Both picks are Chinese-made, and they say so. Yosukata’s FAQ says its woks are produced exclusively in China from steel supplied by a Japanese mill. Craft Wok lists its 14″ flat model as hand-hammered in Guangzhou. Carbon steel is simple: thickness, a solid handle, and no rivets to trap food matter more than the brand.

Any carbon steel wok

  • You want dishwasher-safe or hate drying a pan right away. It will rust.

Craft Wok

  • Your burner is weak, or 4.6 lb is too heavy to toss.

  • You want the steel to last decades; thinner steel can warp.
